Practical information
**How to paddle a canoe? **
- Put yourselves right — one person in the front, one in the back. The back controls the most.
- Hold the oar correctly — with one hand at the top (on the T-grip), and the other in the middle of the shaft.
- Paddle smoothly — change sides regularly to stay steady, or paddle on either side.
- To pivot — the rear paddler paddles harder on the opposite side of the desired direction, or uses “rudder motion” (holds the oar behind and pulls to the side).
- Keep your balance — stay calm and straight, and avoid sudden movements.
Safety first - always
- Always wear a life jacket — no matter how good you are at swimming.
- Stay close to land if you are unsure or it is windy.
- Do not stand in the canoe - this causes poor balance and risk of overturning.
- Avoid paddling in strong winds or currents, especially if you are a beginner.
- Children must always be supervised — even in shallow water.
- Bring mobile in waterproof bag if you paddle far.
- In case of a tilt: Keep calm, hold on to the canoe, and swim towards the shore.
